Architecture in the present time needs to speak of our global crisis of energy consumption, waste management and wealth inequality. If we are still talking about personal expression or random inspiration in the conceptualisation of architecture, then we are dinosaurs.

As technology becomes more affordable and widespread, it will increasingly get dispersed into our physical world. Future buildings may have automation that will blur into the background of the built space and will only be experienced, not actually controlled.
